John D. Houck

John D. Houck, P.E. brings a different experience and background to OSU Intercollegiate Athletics. He has completed over $500 Million in capital development projects for three flagship state universities during his 30-year career. He is presently (Spring 2006) overseeing the construction of three capital projects for the Board of Regents totaling $163 Million including the Boone Pickens Stadium Expansion, Phase II Project.

John joined the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics in December 2005 as an Assistant Vice President, for the purpose of planning and developing the OSU Athletic Village underwritten by the $165 Million gift from Mr. T. Boone Pickens. It is anticipated that the new Athletic Village (including the west end zone expansion) will ultimately cost between $400 Million and $500 Million over the next five years.

John is a registered professional engineer in Oklahoma, Ohio, Iowa, and Illinois. He has authored two books on facilities management along with numerous monographs, papers, and technical presentations. John also teaches (from time to time) Senior and Graduated courses for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in such topics as Construction Contracts and Specifications and Construction Planning, Scheduling, and Control.

Houck has worked for OSU in Physical Plant Services for 15 years before joining the athletics department. Prior to coming to OSU, John has been employed by The University of Ohio State and the University of Iowa.

Houck graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering.

The 57 year old native of Downers Grove, Illinois will marry Linda Jamison on May 16, 2006. He has two girls from a previous marriage. John attended Downers Grove Community High School in the Chicago suburbs.
