Meuchel will be OSU's defensive coach and assist coach Wieligman in hitting as well.
“He is a hard worker,” Wieligman said. “He is a great recruiter and will help us on the west coast since he has been in Nevada the last few years. He is a good coach and can coach both offense and defense.”
Meuchel spent four years at the University of Nevada as the associate head coach. His primary duties were as a hitting instructor and infield coach. His hitters set 12 school records at Nevada and were consistently ranked at the top of the Western Athletic Conference.
He also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Wolfpack and head coach Michelle Gardner. His many duties also included field maintenance as well. During his tenure at Nevada, Meuchel was part of the staff for the United States Olympic team for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
Meuchel's first full time coaching job was at McNeese State where he coached the infield and was the recruiting coordinator. Prior to that he was a volunteer assistant at Arizona State, his alma mater, where he coached outfielders and was in charge of video analysis.
The Missoula, Mont. native was heavily involved with the Sun Devil program as a student. He served as a student manager from 1998-2000 and was the director of summer camp from 1997-2000. He graduated with a degree in psychology in 2000.
