2004-05 (Sophomore): Johnson was named a first-team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association following his sophomore year at Garden City Community College. He averaged 21.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, and led his team to a 23-10 record. Johnson was also named the Most Valuable Player of the Jayhawk Conference Western Division, as well as first-team all-Jayhawk Conference. He was the Player of the Year in NJCAA Region VI, and was first-team all-Region VI. He led his team to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference title. Torre was named to the Region VI all-tournament team after leading the postseason tourney in scoring (23.7 ppg), rebounding (14.7 rpg) and blocked shots (2.7 bpg). He holds the Garden City school record for most points in a career with 1,306, and also set records for most field goals made in a game (15), a season (286) and a career (547). Torre was also recruited by Illinois, Creighton, UAB, DePaul, USC, Texas A&M and UW-Milwaukee. He chose the Cowboys after narrowing his choices to include Arizona, Auburn, Cincinnati and Tennessee.
2003-04 (Freshman): Johnson was named the Jayhawk Conference's Freshman of the Year in 2004, and was also first-team all-Region VI. He was also named first-team all-conference. Johnson averaged 19.2 points per game as a frosh, shooting 59.7 percent from the floor. He grabbed 201 rebounds, an average of 6.3 boards per game. Johnson also recorded 27 steals and 26 blocks his freshman season.
High School: Johnson averaged 17 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots per game his senior year at Solomon Juneau High School in Milwaukee, Wis. He was team captain both his junior and senior seasons, garnering three letters. Johnson was named first-team all-area and second-team All-State his senior season. His junior year, he averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks per contest, earning second-team all-area and first-team all-City Conference accolades by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Johnson was recruited by Connecticut, Florida State, UNC-Wilmington, UW-Milwaukee and South Alabama during his prep career.
Personal: Born May 28, 1985, Torre is the son of Gwen Evans and Torre Johnson, Sr. He has a sister, Victoria, and two brothers, Farrakhan and Ace. Torre enjoys playing video games in his spare time. He is majoring in business management at Oklahoma State.
