Jankowski To Compete with U.S. Under-23 Team
June 22, 2006 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Oklahoma State sophomore David Jankowski, fresh off a top-20 finish in the NCAA Championships, will compete with the U.S. team at the NACAC Under-23 Track and Field Championships.
Jankowksi, an Idaho Falls, Idaho native, will compete in the 10,000-meter run after finishing 16th in the event at this year's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The team is comprised of the two runners with the fastest qualifying times in each event.
"This is huge, especially because, at 21, David is still at the lower side of the under-23 team," said Cowboy Assistant Coach Dave Smith. "This is a kid who could barely make an Idaho team coming out of high school and now he is competing for the U.S. team. This is huge for our program and huge for him personally."
Jankowski is the third athlete on the current OSU men's roster to be selected to compete for the U.S. team. Joe Gray competed on the U.S. junior national track team as a freshman in 2002 and Ryan Vail competed on the U.S. junior national cross country team in the spring of 2005.
The NACAC meet will be held on July 7-9 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic with the 10,000-meter run being held on Saturday, July 8.
