Equestrian Set to Compete at IHSA National Championships

The NCAA, for several years, granted a special waiver that allowed equestrian teams to compete in both organizations for collegiate riders, the IHSA and Varsity Equestrian. This is the last season of the waiver and Oklahoma State will compete at only Varsity Equestrian events next season.
In the team competition, Oklahoma State's Hunt Seat side of the program has qualified for the championships and will be looking to bring home its first national title. The team qualified for nationals by winning the Zone 7 Region 2 regular season points title, over Texas A&M, then defeating New Mexico State at the Zone 7 Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
Outside the team competition, two Cowgirls will be making Oklahoma State history when they take place in the high point rider competition. Throughout the season, individual scores are kept and the rider who has scored the most points in the region, in both Hunt Seat and Western, earn the right to compete against the other top point riders from around the country at nationals. Before this season, O-State had never had a rider win this honor in either discipline but this year they swept the region and had both high point riders in Hunt Seat and Western.
Bailey Mahoney was the high point rider in the Hunt Seat discipline, the Cacchione Cup, while Brianne Wiebe took home top honors in Western, the AQHA High Point Rider. Both Mahoney and Wiebe will compete against the other region's high point riders.
Individually, 10 Cowgirls have earned the right to compete at this year's IHSA National Championships. To qualify, a rider had to finish in the top two in her event at the Zone Championships.
