Vail Finishes Third; Qualifies for National Meet

Vail, a native of Gresham, Ore., garnered third-place honors in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:23.51, making him the only freshman in the Midwest Region to qualify for the national meet in the event.
“This is a huge deal for Ryan to qualify as a freshman,” said Cowboy assistant coach Dave Smith. “He has been gearing his whole year towards this event ever since he qualified and he came out and did an outstanding job.”

Also for the Cowboys, senior Sean McCabe came up short of a national bid despite his strong performance in the 1,500-meter run. McCabe finished 14th in the preliminaries with a time of 3:55.65.
