Entering his 24th year at
Martin has overseen almost every aspect of the OSU athletic department; he assisted former athletics director Myron Roderick in managing the daily operations of marketing, public relations, fiscal management, fund-raising, media relations and special events.
After serving as the interim AD for three months prior to the arrival of Jim Garner, Martin was in charge of internal affairs for the department, overseeing personnel, fiscal management, compliance and facilities.
Martin has also overseen the head coaches while coordinating contracts and scheduling events during his time at OSU. He served as interim coach for women's tennis in 1989 and for wrestling in 1992, guiding both teams to Big Eight titles.
From July of 1993 through August of 1995, Martin was the school's interim athletics director, and recently completed a stint as the interim commissioner of the Big 12 Conference from April 1998 to January 1999.
Prior to OSU, Martin worked at National Sportswear for 12 years.
Martin was an NCAA individual wrestling champion in 1970 and was runner-up in 1969 while competing at
Martin currently serves on the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Board of Governors and the NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee.
