Cowboy Veterans Shine on Final Day of Big 12 Meet
May 15, 2006 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Senior Sean McCabe and junior Joe Gray led the way for the Cowboys. McCabe, a senior from Duncan, Okla., finished eighth in the finals of the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:55.92 after qualifying for the event in Saturday's preliminaries.
“Sean is a fifth-year senior who walked on here after he wasn't recruited by anyone out of high school,” said Cowboy assistant coach Dave Smith. “He came to Oklahoma State and has worked his way into being an elite runner in this conference. He is just a blue collar kid who has worked so hard to get to this point.”
Gray, a junior from Tacoma, Wash., finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:55.01.
“Joe has stayed so solid for us,” said Smith. “He isn't an incredible athlete. He is definitely gifted, but he just has such a competitive fire and consistent work ethic.”
In the 5,000-meter run, it was sophomore David Jankowski leading the way for the Pokes. Jankowski garnered a third-place finish with his time of 14:11.10. Junior Ryan Ripley also finished in the top 10 for the Cowboys. Ripley's time of 14:31.86 was good enough for seventh-place in the event.
Sophomores Alejandro Ruiz and Brian Gosnell also competed in the event for the Cowboys. Ruiz finished 15th while Gosnell finished 25th.
Terry Josserand gave another strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles. The junior from Owasso, Okla., finished seventh in the event with a time of 52.09.
The Cowboys will now have a two-week break before four runners compete at the NCAA Regionals.
