No. 59 Cowgirl Tennis Beats No. 54 Denver 4-3

The match was played under brutal conditions as the wind was gusting heavely. The Cowgirls (9-7) got off to a rough start in doubles action when Iryna Tkachenko and Marta Tsivka, playing together for the first time since March 22, were beaten by Marisa Mechem and Kyla Iwinski at No. 2 doubles 8-2.
Denver clinched the doubles point when Zana Masnic and Yawna Allen lost their first match of the year playing at No. 1 doubles. The tandem was beaten by Suzanna Maksovic and Rachel Sackmaster in a close match 8-6.
After a disappointing doubles showing the Cowgirls bounced back to win four straight singles matches. All the victories came in straight sets.
The Cowgirls evened up the score quickly with a strong performance at No. 3 singles by Lauren Simmons. The junior defeated Sackmaster, 6-2, 6-2, to pick up her ninth victory of the season.
Oklahoma State took the lead for good after Masnic's straight sets victory at No. 2 singles. The senior defeated Annette Aksdal, 6-3, 6-1, to win her third match in a row.
OSU extended the lead to 3-1 after No. 6 singles. Junior Jennifer Poskitt put away Lorinda Boothman in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
The Cowgirls clinched their ninth victory of the season after Marta Tsivka recorded her 13th victory of the season. The newcomer defeated Mechem 6-3, 6-4.
The Pioneers picked up their first singles victory at the No. 1 position when Tkachenko lost to No. 97 Maksovic 7-6 (6), 6-3.
Denver then picked up a victory at No. 4 singles to make the final score 4-3. Allen, playing in her first singles match since March 25 due to injury, lost to Iwinski 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
Oklahoma State will return to Big 12 play on Saturday when they host Iowa State at noon at the DeBois Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla.
