Equestrian Set to Host Zone 7 Championships
April 07, 2006 | Cowgirl Equestrian
The Zone 7 Championships will feature the top teams and riders from both Region I and II of Zone 7. The team competition will feature the top team from each region in both the Hunt Seat and Western disciplines. The teams earned the right to compete at the Zone 7 Championships by winning their regular season point battle.
In the Hunt Seat competition, Oklahoma State will face New Mexico State for the right to be Zone 7 Champions. The winner will also earn the right to represent Zone 7 at the IHSA National Championships in Harrisburg, Pa., on May 4-7.
In the Western competition, Texas A&M, who edged out O-State in the regular season, will go against New Mexico State. Both teams have automatically qualified for the IHSA National Championships.
Aside from the team competition, there will also be individual competitions to crown individual zone champions. In addition to becoming a zone champion, the top two riders in each class will advance to the IHSA National Championships later this year. The individual riders qualified for the Zone 7 Championships by finishing in the top three of their classes at their respective regional championships. There will be 15 Cowgirls competing in the individual competitions.
The championships will begin at 8 a.m., at the Animal Science Arena and admission is free.
