Cowgirl Tennis Edged Out in Regular Season Finale

Oklahoma State (13-9, 6-5) found themselves down, 1-0, early after getting swept in doubles play by Texas Tech (12-8, 7-4).
Oklahoma State quickly evened up the score with an impressive win by Iryna Tkachenko at No. 1 singles. The sophomore, coming off a tough loss on Tuesday, defeated Tara Browning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.
The Lady Raiders came back with a big win at No. 2 singles when Cowgirl Lauren Simmons was beaten by Cigdem Duru, 6-2, 6-3.
At No. 3 singles, the Cowgirl's lone senior, Zana Masnic, picked up the win to even the match at two. Masnic picked up the victory against Janet Durham, 7-5, 6-3.
Texas Tech regained the lead after Katja Kovavic beat Jennifer Poskitt, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.
The Cowgirls stayed alive with a big win by Marta Tsivka. The junior, coming off only her fourth loss of the year, defeated Erin Hunter in a close match, 7-6, 7-5, at No. 5 singles.
The match came down to No. 4 singles and it was the only match of the day to go into three sets. Yawna Allen took the first set, 6-4, over Lakann Wagley for the Cowgirls. Wagley fought back and forced a third set by winning, 7-6, in the second set. Wagley clinched the victory for the Lady Raiders by taking the last set, 6-2.
The Cowgirls will next be in action on April 27 when the head to Waco, Texas, for the first round of the Big 12 tournament.
