No. 47 Cowgirl Tennis Wins Bedlam Battle

“What was amazing was that all the girls who lost against Nebraska (on Sunday) won today,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “We really played well in doubles and took advantage of that. The girls put in the effort and it was not easy.”
The win snapped a two-match losing streak to the Sooners and gave Lubicz-Majewski his 240th career victory. All of the head coach's victories have come at Oklahoma State.
The Cowgirls (13-8, 6-4) took an early, 1-0, lead when they won the doubles point for the third straight match.
The Sooner (9-14, 3-7) took the victory at No. 2 doubles when Christi Baxley and Irina Lykina defeated Iryna Tkachenko and Marta Tsivka, 8-2.
The Cowgirls bounced back after Zana Masnic and Yawna Allen came through with an impressive performance at No. 1 doubles. The duo defeated Gabby Baker and Chelsea Orr, 8-5, in a hard fought battle. The win moves the tandems record to 7-2 since moving up from No. 2 doubles.
The doubles point came down to the No. 3 position and the duo of Lauren Simmons and Zuzanna Osinska. The pair responded with a, 8-2, win against Anne Carter and Monica Purice to give O-State the doubles point.
The Sooners quickly evened up the score when singles play began. Purice beat Masnic, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles to even the score at one.
The Cowgirls regained the lead with a strong performance from Allen. The sophomore beat Baxley, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.
O-State extended the lead to 3-1 after Jennifer Poskitt won at No. 6 singles. The junior won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Oklahoma State clinched the Bedlam victory with a win at No. 2 singles. Simmons turned in an impressive performance and defeated Lykina, 6-2, 6-1.
Baker added to OU's scoring with a hard fought victory at No. 1 singles with a win over Tkachenko, 6-4, 6-1.
In the final match to finish, Tsivka suffered a rare loss at No. 5 singles. The junior was defeated by Orr, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 11-9 to make the final score, 4-3. It was only Tsivka's fourth loss of the season.
The Cowgirls will close the regular season when they face No. 55 Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday at 11 a.m.
