Equestrian Advances at Varsity National Championships

Oklahoma State's western team outscored South Carolina, 857-851, to move into the second round where will they will face the winner of the Texas A&M and Kansas State match up. O-State's 847 points were the most point scored by any team competing in the first round.
"The girls rode well but they still made some mistakes," said head coach Larry Sanchez. "We have to eliminate those mistakes if we want to advance."
Oklahoma State's western team enters this year's championships as the No. 4 seed and is looking to ad its third Varsity Equestrian National Championship in the Western discipline.
In the horsemanship competition, OSU outscored USC in three of the four individual battles. Brianne Wiebe, Jordan Pickelman and Brandi Thomas all outscored their South Carolina counterparts.
The Cowgirls faired even better in reining as they took all three of the competitions. Wiebe, Katie Bohr and Jacque Roberts all picked up victories for the Cowgirls. Wiebe's score of 146 was the highest for the Cowgirls on the day.
The Hunt Seat team received a first round bye and will face Auburn in the second round. Auburn advanced after defeating West Texas A&M in the first round.
