April 15, 2006 | Cowgirl Softball
Courtney Totte lined out to the centerfielder and Candice Byler, representing the tying run, was doubled off second base to end the game as Oklahoma State (16-22, 2-8 Big 12) lost its seventh consecutive game at Missouri (20-17, 4-4 Big 12) losing, 5-3, at University Field in Columbia, Mo.
Lacy Darity was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh inning and pinch hitter Shallan Watson laced a double down the left field line to put the tying run in scoring position. Byler ran for Watson and was doubled off when Micaela Minner made a diving catch in center to save the day for the Tigers.
OSU was trailing 5-0 in the sixth inning when the Cowgirls strung together four consecutive hits with two outs. Lauren Kitchens continued her torrid hitting in Big 12 play with a two-run double. She scored on an RBI single by Ashleigh Tweed to make it a 5-3 game.
The Tigers tallied a run in the third inning on a solo home run by Leanne Bowers. MU added another run in the fourth when four consecutive hitters reached base safely before the OSU got a double play to end the inning.
Jen Bruck added a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give MU two much needed insurance runs.
The teams will conclude the two-game set tomorrow afternoon at
