Cowgirls Rally to Defeat Shockers, 3-2

Courtney Totte scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give Oklahoma State a 3-2 win over rival Wichita State on Wednesday afternoon at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
Totte led off the seventh inning with a double to left center. Kim Kaye laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance her to third. Shallan Watson followed with a ground ball to the third baseman that momentarily held Totte at third, but she broke for the plate after the throw to first and beat first baseman Lisa Jones' throw home for the winning run.
The Cowgirls trailed early after the Shockers hit a double and triple in the opening frame that plated two runs. Erin Peters led off the game with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Britnee Barnett. Julie Darling drove Barnett home with a double off the wall to give the Shockers the early 2-0 lead.
The Cowgirls cut the lead in half in the bottom of the second. Shanel Scott came up with the bases loaded and hit a little dribbler in the infield and Shallan Watson scored from third to make it 2-1.
Ashleigh Tweed and Courtney Totte hit back-to-back triples to start the fifth inning to tie the game. Totte, however, was stranded at third with no outs as Kim Kaye and Watson both popped up in the infield and Krystle Sanchez struck out to end the inning.
Starting pitcher Jessica Hoppock gave the Cowgirls a chance to win only allowing two hits after the first inning. Hoppock (4-7) pitched a complete game allowing just two runs on five hits in seven innings of work. Barnett (5-4) suffered the loss in relief for
Totte provided the offense for the Cowgirls going 3-for-4 with a double and triple, and Scott added a couple of hits as well.
