No. 16 Bears Top Cowgirls in Waco

The singles matches were played first in case of bad weather. The Bears (10-3, 3-0) jumped ahead early with a straight sets victory at the No. 4 position. Sophomore Yawna Allen fell to No. 97 Daniela Covello 6-0, 6-1. The Bears got another quick victory at the No. 2 slot, where No. 16 Zuzana Cerna beat senior Zana Masnic 6-2, 6-0.
No. 3 singles were the next to finish and Baylor got another point when No. 88 Klara Zrustova beat junior Lauren Simmons 6-1, 6-1. The match was clinched at No. 1 singles where No. 12 Zuzana Zemenova was too much for Iryna Tkachenko and won 6-4, 6-2.
The Cowgirls picked up their only point of the day at the No. 5 position where junior Marta Tsivka continued her strong play. Tsivka beat Iva Mihaylova 7-6 (6), 6-2, to move her record to 7-1 on the year.
Freshman Zuzanna Osinska got her first start of the year and took and early lead against Zuzana Krchnakova but lost 3-6, 6-1, 10-3.
The Cowgirls lost the doubles point but did pull out one victory. The duo of Simmons and Osinska beat Sammi Gottlich and Rachel Clark, 8-1. The victory was the tandem's sixth win of the year.
In the other matches, Tkachenko and Tsivka fell to Krchnakova and Covello 8-4, at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 doubles, the tandem of Masnic and Allen fought hard before losing in a tiebreaker to Zrustova and Mihaylova 8-7 (4).
Oklahoma State (4-4, 0-1) will next take the court on Thursday when they host No. 19 BYU at the DuBois Tennis Center.
