Cowgirls Softball Advances at Buzz Classic

Oklahoma State's softball team advanced out of Pool 4 and into bracket play with two victories over Evansville, 10-1, and St. Joseph's, 9-1, on the second Day of the Buzz Classic at Al Bishop Complex in Marietta, Ga.

OSU (7-10) went 4-0 in its pool and received the No. 2 seed in the tournament bracket.

The Cowgirls jumped on Evansville early scoring two runs in the top of the first. OSU scored every inning in support of starter Jessica Hoppock (3-6). Hoppock allowed just one run on three hits in five innings of work.

Courtney Totte and Lauren Kitchens provided the offense for the Cowgirls. Totte went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Kitchens went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.

Oklahoma State used a five-run sixth inning to complete the run rule of St. Joseph's and win 9-1. Shanel Scott scored the final run on an RBI single off the bat of first baseman Kim Kaye.

Ashlyn Watson provided the big bat against the Hawks going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Chelsey Barclay (2-4) earned the win on the mound allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work. Hoppock closed out the Hawks with a perfect sixth inning.

The Cowgirls receive a bye to the quarterfinals to be held at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. The semifinals and finals will follow the quarterfinals at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
