Killeen staked the Cyclones to the early 3-0 lead, and Beth Tharp and Jennifer Bigbee each plated a pair of runs in the deciding fifth inning to give ISU a 7-0 lead.
The Cowgirls started their rally in the bottom half of the fifth with three consecutive singles with two outs that plated Shanel Scott to put OSU on the board. It was the 99th career run for Scott who is trying to become just the second player in OSU history with 100 runs scored.
OSU continued its rally in the sixth inning when it loaded the bases with one out. Shianne Cruce hit a sacrifice fly to score a run, and a second run crossed the plate when third baseman Kristy Olsen did not handle the throw. Olsen retrieved the ball and beat Candice Byler to the bag to end the inning and the Cowgirl rally.
Scott led off the seventh inning with a single trying to spark another OSU rally, but the Cowgirls failed to move her along as Kim Kaye grounded out to end the game.
The two teams will wrap up the two-game set tomorrow afternoon at
