February 25, 2006 | Cowgirl Softball
Cal Poly (3-9) jumped on Oklahoma State (2-6) starter Chelsey Barclay for two runs in the top of the first inning. Kristen Pocock drove in both runs with a two-out double in an inning that was kept alive on an error by third baseman Chelsea Caraway.
Kelly Comstock led off the third inning for the Mustangs. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored after Barclay threw a pair of wild pitches to make it 3-0.
The Mustangs chased Barclay from the game in the fifth following an RBI single by Jackie Gherke-Jones. Jessica Hoppock allowed two doubles and a single as Cal Poly plated five runs in the fifth inning off of the two Cowgirl pitchers.
The Cowgirls scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to keep the game alive. Krystle Sanchez led off the inning with a walk. Candice Byler pinch ran for her and came around to score on a single by Shanel Scott. The hit extended Scott's hitting streak to eight games.
Scott added another RBI single for the Cowgirls in the seventh to score Ashlyn Watson who reached on a one-out double. It was all the Cowgirls could muster as Ashleigh Tweed followed with a ground out to end the game.
The Cowgirls are back at it today against No. 22 Oregon at 3 p.m. CST and they will face Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m. CST.
