Oklahoma State pitcher Jessica Hoppock gave up a three-run home run to Oregon's Lovena Chaput as the Ducks defeated OSU, 4-2, at the Palm Springs Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Cowgirls were leading Oregon 2-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Suzie Barnes led off the seventh with a single and Sari-Jane Jenkins advanced her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Breanne Sabol walked to set the stage for Chaput's dramatics.
The Cowgirls have lost all three games at the Palm Springs Classic and are 2-7 on the season. Oregon improves to 8-5 on the year with the win.
OSU took the lead in the top of the fourth when Shallan Watson drove in Kim Kaye with an RBI single. The Cowgirls added another run when Lacy Darity scored on a throwing error by Oregon third baseman Joanna Gail.
Oregon cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the fifth when Jenkins hit an RBI single before Chaput's home run in the seventh.
Jessica Hoppock started on the mound for the Cowgirls and went the distance. Hoppock is now 1-5 on the year. Shanel Scott continues to set the table for Oklahoma State as she had two more hits to extend her hitting streak to nine. Scott has had at least two hits in all three games of the Palm Springs Classic.
The Cowgirls will play Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m. CST before wrapping up the tournament tomorrow against No. 11 Oregon State at 11 a.m.
