Cowgirls Drop First Game to UNLV

The Cowgirls fell to 2-5 on the season, while UNLV improved its season record to 7-5.
The Cowgirls scored first taking advantage of a passed ball that allowed Shanel Scott to reach first to lead off the game. Scott made her way around the bases and eventually scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning.
UNLV took the lead in the bottom half of the second. OSU starter Jessica Hoppock walked the bases loaded with two outs and Rebel leadoff hitter Marissa Nichols drove in the go ahead runs with a two-run double.
The Cowgirls threatened on a couple of occasions, but could not plate any runs. OSU their first two hitters on in the third and stranded them both. Lauren Kitchens led off the fourth inning with a double, but she was called out for interference.
OSU never mounted an offensive attack after the fourth. UNLV added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single by Kendall Fearn.
Scott had two hits for the Cowgirls who has now hit safely in all seven games this season.
Hoppock started for OSU and gave up three runs on six hits in six innings of work, but was hurt by four walks and suffered the loss to drop to 1-4 on the season.
The Cowgirls resume play tonight at the Palm Springs Classic against Cal Poly at
