Cowgirls Looking for Games at Palm Springs Classic

Oklahoma State's softball team will head west to participate in the Palm Springs Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., this weekend. The Cowgirls are just looking to get games in after having the OSU Easton Classic canceled at home and a road game at North Texas was also canceled due to the weather. OSU is 2-4 on the season and has not played since Texas-San Antonio came up for one game back on Feb. 16. The Cowgirls open the tournament against UNLV on Friday at 12 p.m. CST. UNLV is 6-5 on the season thus far. The Cowgirls will then look for revenge against Cal Poly back that evening. Cal Poly is just 2-8 on the season but one of their wins came against OSU after trailing by as many as nine early in the contest. The Cowgirls start play on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST against nationally ranked Oregon. The Ducks are 6-4 on the young season. OSU will wrap up Saturday evening against Cal State Fullerton. The Cowgirls will conclude the tournament with a test against 11th-ranked Oregon State. The other OSU is 8-2 on the year.
Scott Sets Steals Mark
Junior outfielder Shanel Scott came into the season needing just three stolen bases to pass former Cowgirl great Cyndi Smith for the all-time lead. It did not take Scott long to get the mark, Scott stole three bases at the Campbell/Cartier Classic to open the season. She got her first steal in the season opener against Cal Poly. She was kept off the bases until the final game of the tournament when she stole two bases against UC-Santa Barbara. Scott is currently hitting .333 on the season and is 3-3 on stolen base attempts.
Transfers Making Impact
Junior college transfers Chelsey Barclay, Kim Kaye and Krystle Sanchez have stepped in and played key roles immediately for the Cowgirls. Barclay has made three starts for coach Rebenar on the mound and has a 1-1 record with a 1.79 ERA. Opponents arre hitting a mere .233 off of her. Kaye has started all six games at first base and is hitting .350 on the year. She has hit one of the two Cowgirl home runs and is tied for the team lead with five RBIs. Sanchez has played in all six games, making three starts at shortstop. She has OSU's other home run on the season and has played solid defense committing just two errors thus far.
Scott, Totte moving up Career Ranks
Shanel Scott and Courtney Totte came into their junior seasons already ranking among OSU's best players all-time. Scott has already set the stolen base mark and she is moving up several other charts as well. Totte will rank as one of OSU's best run producers in school history before her career is through. This is how the current Cowgirls rank all-time.
Tweed Swinging Hot Stick
Ashleigh Tweed entered her senior campaign as a .231 career hitter. After starting the season 1-for-8, Tweed has been on a tear going 4-for-10 with two doubles over her last three games. That is not counting the scrimmage against Seminole State where she was 3-for-3 with a home run. Tweed has gotten the most of her playing time getting a chance to play every day at second base and is currently hitting .278 with two doubles and three RBIs.
