Cowgirls Wrap Up Road Trip With Win

The Cowgirls (3-1) defeated the Aggies (6-3) 4-1 in a shortened match. Oklahoma State is now 5-0 all-time against New Mexico State. The victory also gave head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski his 230th career win. All the wins have come as head coach of the Cowgirls.
“We played much better than we did yesterday,” said Lubicz-Majewski. “We really bounced back nicely after losing yesterday.”
As they have in every dual this season, the Cowgirls grabbed an early lead by winning the doubles point. The duo of Iryna Tkachenko and Marta Tsivka defeated Isabella Mignot and Edina van Beusekom at the No. 1 position, 8-4. The Cowgirls also picked up a win a the No. 3 spot, when Lauren Simmons and Zuzanna Osinska beat Anne Fagegaltier and Paulina Zuniga, 8-3.
The Cowgirls won three of the four singles matches that were completed. Simmons defeated Nicole Fintell at the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Oklahoma State also got straight set victories out of two newcomers. Yawna Allen defeated Fagegaltier, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 4 position. At the No. 5 slot, Marta Tsvika beat Celine du Fosse, 6-2, 6-4.
The lone loss for the Cowgirls came at the No. 6 position, where Jennifer Poskitt was beaten, 6-3, 6-2, by Paulina Zuniga.
Cowgirl tennis will next be in action on Friday as they battle UC-Santa Barbara in the first round of the UNLV Invitational at 2 p.m.
