Cowgirls Fall Short in Upset Bid

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team was defeated, 5-2, by No. 38-ranked New Mexico (6-1) on Saturday at the NMSU Tennis Center in Las Cruces, N.M.
The Cowgirls (2-1) grabbed an early lead after securing the doubles point. The duo of Zana Masnic and Yawna Allen defeated New Mexico's Lucy Scott and Ola Abou-Zekry, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot. The Cowgirls also won at the No. 3 position when Lauren Simmons and Zuzanna Osinska beat Nora Quintal and Jennifer Ryba, 8-3. OSU's Iryna Tkachenko and Marta Tviska could not upset the No. 3-ranked doubles team in the country. The pair lost to Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek, 8-3.
Oklahoma State did not fair as well in singles competition as the Cowgirls lost five of six matches. The lone win came at the No. 6 position where Jessica Collins defeated Mackenzie White, 6-0, 7-5, (10-8).
The Cowgirls will wrap up their road trip tomorrow with a dual against New Mexico State at 10 a.m. at the NMSU Tennis Center. The Aggies are currently 6-2 and are coming off a 5-2 win against Colorado State.
