Cowgirls Roll Against Lady Bears

“The whole team played real well,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “It was a tough match since it was on their home court but I like the way we played.”
The Cowgirls (2-0) are now 11-1 all-time against the Lady Bears (2-3).
Sophomore Iryna Tkachenko bounced back from a tough loss on Saturday to beat Missouri State's Liz Garza in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 1 position. The Cowgirls also got a straight sets victory from newcomer Yawna Allen. The Arkansas transfer defeated Monika Musilova, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 4 position.
Another newcomer, Marta Tsivka also continued her strong play by beating MSU's Mali Gakovic, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 5 position. Veteran Lauren Simmons also contributed to the Cowgirl's scoring by winning at the No. 2 spot. The junior defeated Nora Kuruc, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The lone point of the day for the Lady Bears came at the No. 3 singles position where Maja Stanojevic beat Oklahoma State's Zana Masnic, 6-4, 6-2.
For the second consecutive match, Oklahoma State came away with the doubles point. OSU won at the No. 1 position where the duo of Tkachenko/Tsivka beat Missouri State's Garza/Kuruc, 8-5. At the No. 2 position, Oklahoma State's team of Masnic/Allen were defeated, 8-4, by Stanojevic/Musilova. The Cowgirls got the point after Missouri State defaulted at the No. 3 position.
“Now it is time to give the girls a day off before we start practicing to get ready for next week,” said Lubicz-Majewski.
Oklahoma State will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., next weekend to take on New Mexico and New Mexico State.
