Cowgirls Fall to Tournament Host San Diego State

Oklahoma State's softball team fell to 1-3 on the year with a 3-1 setback to tournament host San Diego State in the Campbell Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif.

The Cowgirls only mustered three hits in the contest, and they scored their only run when Candice Byler scored from second on Tara Jeffery's double.

San Diego generated its offense from the middle of the lineup, which seemed to spark all three Aztec runs. Monica Alnes got things going in the second when she doubled and promptly stole third. She scored on Megan McDonald's sacrifice fly.

Melissa Owens added the winning run with a home run in the top of the fourth, and the Aztecs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on McDonald's home run.

Jessica Hoppock went the distance on the mound and fell to 0-3 on the year. Hoppock scattered six hits in seven innings, but the two home runs came back to haunt her.

The Cowgirls never threatened late in the game going down in order in each of the final three innings.

OSU will conclude the Campbell/Cartier Classic tomorrow at 1 p.m. CST against UC-Santa Barbara.
