Cowgirl Tennis Opens 2006 Season With Win

Oklahoma State (1-0) extended their win streak against the Lady Mavericks (0-3) to seven. The Cowgirls has never lost to the Lady Mavericks.
“I was very proud of the way the girls played,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “I have to give a lot of credit to UTA. They played extremely tough but we got a good effort from our girls. This was a tough first match”
Oklahoma State newcomer Marta Tsivka defeated UTA's Anete Rozkalne at the No. 5 singles position to clinch the win for the Cowgirls. After losing the first set 0-6, Tsivka bounced back to defeat Rozkalne, 6-2, 6-4, in the final two sets.
“I like the way Marta came back after losing the first set 0-6,” said Lubicz-Majewski. “That was a big win for her because it was her first college match and she clinched the win for us.”
At the No. 2 position, junior Lauren Simmons defeated UTA's Daniela Novakova in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. The Cowgirls also got another straight sets victory from senior Zana Masnic. Masnic defeated UTA's Simri van Rooyen, 7-5, 7-6, at the No. 3 position.
The Cowgirl's lone singles loss of the day came at the No. 1 position. UTA's Klara Jagosova beat sophomore Iryna Tkachenko, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Oklahoma State picked up the doubles point by winning the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Masnic/Allen defeated UTA's Van Rooyen/Peciulionyte, 8-5, at the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 position, Osinska/Simmons beat UTA's Rozkalne/Brown, 8-6.
The Cowgirls face Missouri State on Sunday at the Cooper Tennis Complex at 11 a.m. Missouri State is currently 2-1 this season after defeating UTA 4-3 on Friday.
