February 11, 2006 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls dropped a heartbreaker to Cal Poly losing 16-12 in eight innings. OSU exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the second, but junior Jessica Hoppock could not hold the lead and suffered her first loss of the season.
The Mustangs slowly chipped away scoring one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Kim Kaye padded the OSU lead with a two-run homerun in the sixth inning, but it was not enough to hold off Cal Poly.
Cal Poly scored eight runs in the top of the seventh, three of which were unearned, to take the lead. OSU did not give in, however, scoring a run to force extra innings.
Cal Poly took advantage of more Cowgirl miscues in the eighth circling the bases on four wild pitches. The Mustangs scored four runs in the inning and held on to win 16-12.
The Cowgirls rallied against eighth-ranked California, but fell short losing 14-5 in six innings. Cal scored in every inning to complete the run rule.
The Golden Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two frames. OSU came back to tie the game in the third thanks to a two-run triple by Courtney Totte.
Lindsay James gave California the lead back for good in the bottom half of the third with a two-run single. The Golden Bears added four more in the fourth and pulled away for the win. Haley Woods finished off the Cowgirls with a two-run homerun in the sixth inning to finish the run rule.
OSU will be in action tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. against Sacramento State and at 5 p.m. against host San Diego State.
