OSU Falls to Baylor

The western team defeated the Lady Bears both in reining and horsemanship by one point, finishing the western score, 6-4. Senior Katie Bohr was named the MVP rider for the reining class. Her score of a 71.5 beat out Amanda Graber's 68. Bohr's score was the highest reining score of the day. Also earning points for the team in reining were sophomore Jacque Roberts and freshman Leah Kuehn. Veteran Brandi Thomas outscored Nicole McCoy in horsemanship by 4.5 points. The remainder of the points came from two freshmen, Kilee Stewart and Ashley Koch. Stewart outscored her opponent, Ashleigh Brown, by 3.5 points, and Koch outscored Allison Orosz by one point.
"The girls rode really well today against Baylor, there was just a couple things I would change going into tomorrow,” said head coach Larry Sanchez. "I'm looking forward to going to College Station to continue the success the western team is having this season.”
Coach Sanchez added he was very pleased with Katie Bohr had on her reining pattern, saying "she deserved to be recognized for her ride today.”
The English team, however, fell to the Lady Bears, 7-3, in a combined score of equitation on the flat and fences. Although the Cowgirls were outscored, there many great rides that took place in the arena. Sophomore Sam Collingsworth was named the MVP of the equitation on the flat class. Her score of 93 outscored Baylor's Susie Foster by six points. Also earning points for the Cowgirls in the flat class was freshman Ally Blais. Blais received an 89, beating out Nicole Brown by 11 points. Blais not only shined in the flat class, but in the fence class as well. Earning the sole point in fences, Blais scored an 80, beating Analisa Muti by 20 points.
“Despite the scores, I was very proud of the rides the girls put in today," said OSU assistant coach Suzanne Flaig. “Stylistically, the girls are riding right where they need to be. They are improving each show in their patterns."
The Cowgirls continue their weekend on the road with a competition in College Station, Texas against undefeated Texas A&M on Sunday. The competition is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am in the W. Dick Freeman Arena.
