Three Athletes Named OSU Alumni Association Seniors of Significance

Darnell Smith, Destanie Sykes and Lauren Simmons were three of 39 Oklahoma State students named Seniors of Significance by the OSU Alumni Association.
The Seniors of Significance Award recognizes students who have excelled in scholarship, leadership and service to campus and community and brought distinction to Oklahoma State University. Recipients are honored at the end of the fall semester. Senior of Significance honorees are then eligible for the Outstanding Seniors Award.
Simmons is currently in her fourth year with the Cowgirl tennis program and has earned three letters in her career. The Smithtown, N.Y., native, is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and a Big 12 Tennis Player of the Week honoree. She was also an Academic All-American last season. Simmons is majoring in history and plans to attend law school.
Smith is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and will leave OSU as a four-year letterwinner in football. Smith, who plays defensive end, is majoring in economics and international business. He is also a three-time Academic All-Big 12 selection.
Sykes is entering her fourth season with the Cowgirl basketball program and lettered her first three. The Duncanville, Texas native, has started 63 games in her career and is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 selection. She is majoring in merchandising and apparel design.
Last year two athletes were honored with the award, soccer's Lauren Colwell and equestrian's Nicole Stec.
