Cowgirl Equestrian Finishes 1-1 In Kansas

Oklahoma State's equestrian team came up just 1.5 points shy of bringing home two victories on Saturday in Manhattan, Kansas. The Cowgirls and Kansas State were deadlocked 10-10, but when raw scores were added the Wildcats scored 1,376 points to the Cowgirls 1,374.5 total.
OSU did get into the win column with a 10-9 victory over New Mexico State.
Standout MVP riders existed in both disciplines of the show today for the Cowgirls. On the English side of the competition against K-State, the Cowgirls were awarded in equitation on the flat. Junior Bailey Mahoney outscored the Wildcats' Kendall Marvin by a 14-point margin. Mahoney's score of a 70 was the highest flat pattern score across the board in the competition.
The Cowgirls swept the board against New Mexico State, picking up both English MVP awards. Sophomore Jaclyn Osterstock received the award for equitation over fences. Osterstock's score of 79, the second highest score of the day, was only one point off the day's top score and beat out the Aggie's Krystal Mack by one point.
Earning her second MVP award for the day in the flat was Mahoney. Her score of 70 beat out her opponent, Meg Keeley by an overwhelming margin of 22 points. On the western side, senior Rachel Currat earned the MVP award against Kansas State in the reining portion of the show. Currat scored a 72.5 to defeat the Wildcats' Morgan Campbell by 5 points. Currat was the final rider for the Cowgirls of the day and her ride secured the tie against Kansas State.
Senior Paige Hortman and freshman Allyson Blais put points on the board against Kansas State on the English side of the competition in the equitation over fences category.
Earning points for the Cowgirls in equitation on the flat included, sophomore Samantha Collingsworth and juniors Bailey Mahoney and Michelle Woolschlager.
The Cowgirls and the Wildcats tied 5-5 in the English scoring. On the western side, the Cowgirls fell to the Wildcats in all rides of the horsemanship, but captured every single win in the reining section to tie again at five apiece.
Earning the Cowgirls' five points in the reining section were seniors Rachel Currat and Katie Bohr, sophomore Jacque Roberts and freshmen Rachell Shobe and Molly Tipton.
The head-to-head matchup against New Mexico State resulted in a 10-9 victory for the Cowgirls as they picked up three points in equitation over fences from Hortman, Osterstock and freshman Allyson Blais.
Earning the remaining English points against the Aggies in equitation on the flat were Mahoney, Michelle Woolschalger and sophomore Samantha Collingsworth.
The western team turned in the remaining four points. Earning the sole point in horsemanship was senior Brandi Thomas. The Cowgirls recorded three points in the reining section by seniors Katie Bohr and Rachel Currat and sophomore Jacque Roberts.
The weekend split wrapped up the fall slate for the Cowgirls, who finished with a 5-2 record.
They will kick off the 2007 season against Miami of Ohio on January 27, 2007 in Stillwater.
