Manhattan, KS - The most pertinent pre-game question was, how many rushing yards will Barry Sanders get?
Answer: 320.
But the most salient revelation is Oklahoma State needed everyone one of them Saturday at KSU stadium. It wasn't until Heisman Trophy candidate Sanders raced 17 yards on his next-to-last carry with 6:38 left that OSU relaxed, a 45-27 victory assured over hapless Kansas State. Sanders gained his Oklahoma State school record  he topped the 304 he gained earlier against Tulsa  on 37 carries and scored three touchdowns. Sanders' TD runs covered 26, 38, and 17 yards and he gained 10 or more yards nine times. Despite Sanders' domination  the junior tailback now has 1,476 yards and 24 TDs in seven | | Score By Quarters | Oklahoma State 21 3 14 7 --45 Kansas State 14 3 3 7 --27 | Scoring Summary | KSU  Washington, 13 Pass from Straw (Porter Kick) 7-0 OSU - Parker, 63 Pass from Gundy (Blanchard Kick) 7-7 KSU - Friedrich, Fumble Recovery in End Zone (Porter Kick) 14-7 OSU - Sanders, 26 Rush (Blanchard Kick) 14-14 OSU  Sanders, 38 Rush (Blanchard Kick) 14-21 OSU  Blanchard, 35 Field Goal 14-24 KSU  Porter, 32 Field Goal 17-24 OSU  Dykes, 28 Pass from Gundy (Blanchard Kick) 17-31 KSU  Porter, 37 Field Goal 20-31 OSU  Vice, 1 Pass from Gundy (Blanchard Kick) 20-38 KSU  Pickett, 1 Rush (Porter Kick) 27-38 OSU  Sanders 17 Rush (Blanchard Kick) 27-45 | First Downs | 27 | 28 | Rushing Yards | 388 | 215 | Passing Yards | 228 | 270 | Passing | 15-19-2 | 26-52-1 | Total Offense | 616 | 485 | Fumbles-Lost | 2-2 | 3-0 | Penalties-Yards | 11-73 | 3-14 | Punts Average | 8-42.1 | 8-42.0 | Time of possession | 2-34.0 | 5-37.8 | | OSU Statistics | Leading Rusher- Barry Sanders, 37-320 (3 TDs)

games  Kansas State peeled OSU's beleaguered defense like a can of sardines. Carl Straw completed 26 of 52 passes. Greg Washington caught 11 for 157 yards and Lee Pickett ran for 130 yards of his own. All told, K-State rolled up 485 yards, normally more than enough to win. But OSU totaled 616 yards, the fourth straight game the Wildcats have yielded 500 or more. Kansas State kept 16,000 blanket-covered spectators' hopes up with a double-whammy  two successful onside kicks to open the game a raw 45-degree day with biting winds whipping out of the north under overcast skies. The Cowboys led 24-17 at halftime, then put together a 56-yard drive to start the third quarter, Gundy firing a 28-yard strike to Hart Lee Dykes (nine catches for 127 yards) for the score. K-State tacked on a 37-yard field goal by Mark Porter before OSU put together another long drive. This one covered 71 yards and Gundy faked to Sanders and found Vance Vice standing alone in the end zone for a one-yard TD pass. |
