While a Cowboy, McCabe was a member of both the cross country and track teams and was an integral part of the success of the Cowboy program in recent years. In 2005, McCabe was part of the cross country team that finished eighth at the NCAA Championships in Terre Heute, Ind. That same team was also the 2006 Midwest Regional Champion. During his senior campaign in track McCabe recorded his highest finish with a third place in the one mile run at the Indoor Big 12 Championships with a time of 4:04.57. One week later he recorded his PR in the mile at the Notre Dame meet of 4:03.33. In his outdoor season, he finished eighth in the Big 12 Championships and made it to the Regional Championships for the second year in a row.
Academically McCabe was a 10 time Academic All Big 12 recipient and also a member of Academic All American cross country team 3 times. McCabe graduated in May 2006 with a degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Marketing. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in health promotion.
