Adding to an already disappointing season, the Cornhuskers lost to Oklahoma State for the first time since 1961 as Josh Fields threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in a 24-21 victory on Saturday.
While Fields passed for 192 yards, Tatum Bell added a career-high 182 yards on the ground for the Cowboys (3-4, 1-2 Big 12).
When the game ended, Oklahoma State fan raced onto the field and tore down both goal posts as the Cowboys ended a 24-game losing and 35-game winless streak against the Huskers. There was a tie in 1973.
Nebraska (5-3, 1-2), which tumbled out of the AP poll for the first time since 1981 several weeks ago, has now lost three of its last five games and has dropped five in a row on the road dating to last season. The other losses came against Top 25 teams – Penn State and Iowa State.
Nebraska led 7-3 at the half, but the Cowboys pulled out to a 17-7 lead on a 3-yard TD run by fields and his 5-yard scoring pass to Rashaun Woods. Woods finished with 11 catches for 134 yards.
David Horne, who finished with 125 yards for Nebraska, scored from 2 yards out to cut the lead to a17-14 in the fourth quarter, but Fields threw a 17-yard TD pass to John Lewis to make it 24-14.
Jammal Lord threw for 110 yards and ran for 73, including a 1-yard TD with 2:06 left in the game.
The onside kick went out of bounds, and the Cowboys took over and ran out the clock.
Lord completed 7 or 14 passes, but his fumble at the Nebraska 40 set up Fields' TD pass to Woods that made it 17-7.
