The Oklahoma State equestrian team added another win to its record as they downed the Baylor Bears, 17-7, at the Animal Science Arena in Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday.
The win moved the Cowgirls to 2-0 on the young season. OSU also claimed two of the four MVP awards, one in reining and one in equitation on the flat.
On the English side, the Cowgirls went 4-2 over fences and 5-1 on the flat. Newcomers Jaclyn Osterstock, Devon Smithburg and Ally Blais all had their debut rides against the Baylor Bears over fences. Osterstock course was the second highest out of the 12 riders scoring an 82 out of a possible 100. The Cowgirls had a near perfect score on the flat dropping just one class to the Bears. She beat out her competitor Suzie Foster with a score of 86-78.
The western team put in a great effort in both the reining and horsemanship classes. In each class they surpassed the Bears by two. Newcomers to reining included freshman Molly Tipton and Leah Kuehn. Megan Brown, a senior competed for the first time in the Varsity format today in the horsemanship class. Sophomore Jacque Roberts was named the reining MVP. Her ride on Shiner was spectacular as she laid down phenomenal stops which helped to give her a score of a 74.5.
