Cowgirl Equestrian to Compete at Big 8 Western Tournament

The tournament will feature the top eight western teams in the country facing each other in head-to-head action. The seeding for the tournament is based off of last year's finish at the Varsity National Championships.
Oklahoma State is seeded second and will take on a familiar program in New Mexico State in the first round. New Mexico State is coached by former Cowgirl standout Kristen Thomas. Her younger sister, Brandi Thomas, is also a Cowgirl and will be competing this weekend. Head Coach Larry Sanchez also coached at NMSU for six years before taking over Oklahoma State's program.
If the Cowgirls win they will advance to the semifinals on Saturday. They would face the winner of Fresno State and Kansas State matchup. A loss in the opening round and the Cowgirls would head to the consolation bracket where they would face the loser of the Bulldog and Wildcat matchup.
There will be five riders competing for the Cowgirls this weekend. Brianne Wiebe, Katie Bohr and Jacqueline Roberts will be competing in Reining. Samantha Davidson will compete in Horsemanship. Thomas will be competing in both Reining and Horsemanship.
“I think the team is in a good place right now,” said Sanchez. “The girls have been riding well. We are excited about going down to College Station and hopefully we will continue to ride well.”
