Cowgirl Equestrian to compete at Nationals
May 04, 2005 | Cowgirl Equestrian
Twelve Cowgirls will be representing Oklahoma State, starting with April Peck, a two-time national champion. The Coweta native will be competing for individual championships in both the Hunter Seat and Western disciplines. April is a senior making her fourth trip to the National finals.
Other seniors that are looking to finish their collegiate riding career with a national championship are Laryn Burns, Lindsey Welsh, Kayla Elmenhorst, Allison Wolff and team captain Marie Hammond. They all would like to add this final jewel in their collegiate crown of accomplishments.
Juniors Mary Beth Ede and Amanda Yancey will be making their second trip to Nationals, while sophomores Katie Bohr and Beth Moe will be making their debut appearance. Katie is fresh off of win at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships and was third in the 2004 NRHA Collegiate Reining Championships.
Talented newcomers Michelle Woolshlager and Paige Hortman will also represent the Cowgirls at the National finals. While Hortman is new to OSU in January of 2005, she is no stranger to National level competition as she finished 10th in the prestigious Cacchionne Cup Competition at the 2004 IHSA Nationals. Lone freshman Michelle Woolshlager hopes to continue her unprecedented success in intercollegiate competition, just recently winning both Regional and Zone Championships.
Competition begins Thursday, May 5, 2005, and will conclude Sunday, May 8.
