Tkachenko Eliminated in NCAA First Round

Oklahoma State's freshman standout Iryna Tkachenko was eliminated in the opening round of the 2005 NCAA Singles Championships held at the University of Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Monday.

Tkachenko, who posted a 17-7 individual record in her inaugural Cowgirl campaign, was ousted by New Mexico's No. 45 ranked Maja Kovacek, 6-3, 7-5.

“We are very proud of the way that Iryna has played all year,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “She would have liked to make it farther in the national tournament, but it is a real honor to be invited, especially when you do it as a freshman.”

Tkachenko was the top performer for a 2005 Cowgirl squad that posted an 8-15 overall record. She will return to the 2006 squad as the team leader in singles victories.
