Marjorie Johnson threw a two-hitter against sixth-ranked Texas but the Cowgirls also managed just two hits and Oklahoma State fell to the Longhorns, 2-1, in front of 698 fans at Cowgirl Stadium on Saturday. The Cowgirls drop to 32-19 overall and 7-10 in the league while Texas improves to 36-11 overall and 10-6 in Big 12 games.
The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on senior Dominique Van Nortwick's second long ball of the year but it would not be enough for the upset. Courtney Totte had OSU's only other hit of the game, a single in the first inning.
Texas took the lead in the fourth, creating just enough offense to score two runs and take the win. Desiree Williams got the Longhorns started with a single in the fourth inning and moved to second on a Jacqueline Williams walk. A wild pitch followed to move both into scoring position and Texas' hottest hitter, Megan Willis, knocked a single to left field to bring both runners home.
Following Van Nortwick's home run, Texas' Meagan Denny allowed just three Cowgirls to reach. The freshman struck out nine and walked two in the complete game effort to improve to 8-2 on the season.
Marjorie Johnson was saddled with the loss, allowing two runs off two hits, five walks and seven strikeouts.
The Cowgirls will face the Longhorns at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the regular season finale at Cowgirl Stadium. OSU's three seniors, Megan Carey, Stephanie Nicholson and Dominique Van Nortwick, will be honored prior to the game.
