Cowgirls Eliminated on Tournament's Opening Day, 4-3

The match against the Tigers (15-8, 5-7) marked the seventh time this season that the Cowgirls (8-15, 4-8) lost by one point after losing doubles.
“It is always hard to win a match against a quality opponent when you lose the doubles point,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “Having to play catch-up in singles is tough and we just didn't get it done today.”
MU stormed to an early lead after tallying victories at No. 3 and 2 doubles, respectively. Play in No. 1 doubles was suspended because the team point was decided.

At No. 4 singles, sophomore Jennifer Poskitt evened the team score at 1-1 after downing Lubica Nadasska in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
MU responded with a victory at No. 6 singles.
Junior Zana Masnic evened the score for OSU again after defeating Hana Kraftova at No. 2 singles in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.
The Tigers took the lead with a victory in the third singles slot.
Freshman Iryna Tkachenko, ranked 83rd nationally, evened the score at 3-3 after downing Katka Sevcikova at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2.
In the match's deciding bout, freshman Jessica Collins was unable to overcome a bad first set, falling in three against Erika Josbena, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.

“Today was a tough day for us,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “We lost the ones we felt confident about and we won in some that we were big underdogs. We are disappointed that we lost, but confident about our chances next year. We have a young team that has experienced a lot of challenges and grown from them.”
