Johnson Hurls No Hitter Against Cornhuskers
April 25, 2005 | Cowgirl Softball
Johnson struck out 11 hitters over seven innings, while walking six batters to improve to 12-4 on the season. Ashley DeBuhr went the distance for Nebraska allowing two runs on five hits to fall to 18-15.
OSU improved to 32-17 on the year and 7-8 in Big 12 play, while NU dropped to 30-17 and 6-7 in conference action.
The Cowgirls took an early lead, scoring one in the first on a RBI double from Tara Jeffery. Courtney Totte reached on a two-out walk and Jeffery followed with the timely hit.
Nebraska threatened in the second inning, loading the bases following a trio of walks. Marjorie Johnson retired the first five batters of the game before walking the next three. The freshman remained calm and stuck out designated player Kira Boerkircher to end the inning.
Dominique Van Nortwick drove in the second run of the game with a single that barely found fair territory down the right field line. Jeffery was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, stole second to get in scoring position and then raced home on Van Nortwick's single.
The 2-0 lead would hold for the remainder of the game as Johnson tossed the first no-hitter of her career against the Huskers. It marked the first time since May 21, 2000 in NCAA regional final game against Arizona that Nebraska failed to get a hit.
Oklahoma State returns to Cowgirl Stadium to host Oklahoma at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
