Softball Sweeps Texas Tech

In game one the Cowgirls had a 1-0 lead following Courtney Totte's seventh home run of the year in the first inning. The lead grew to
Shanel Scott provided the firepower in the fourth inning, plating Shianne Cruce with a single to center field.
Jennie Killman continued the offensive barrage with a RBI single in the fifth inning and after a pair of walks Stephanie Nicholson ended the game via run-rule in the following at-bat. The senior laced a bases clearing double down the left field line to push OSU's lead to 8-0.
Marjorie Johnson picked up the win in the circle, scattering two hits, walking one and striking out 12.
Tech jumped on the Cowgirls early in game two, scoring one in the first inning on a RBI single from Kelly Rhyne. The Red Raiders then increased their lead to 7-0 after exploding for six runs in the fifth inning before OSU's offense woke up.
The Cowgirls chipped away at the lead with two runs in the fifth. Scott led off the frame with a triple and Nicholson followed with a RBI double that came within inches of clearing the fence. Nicholson didn't have to wait long to come home, rounding the bases when Totte threaded a shot through the right side of the infield in the next at-bat.
The momentum shifted to
Nicholson continued her stellar play at the plate, bringing two runs home with her third double of the game. Totte kept the runs coming with a RBI single. A double steal followed that sent Nicholson home to pull the Cowgirls within one and Totte raced home on Texas Tech error to tie the score at 7-7.
Tech took an 8-7 lead after the top half of the seventh but the Cowgirls plated two in the bottom of the frame to come away with a hard-fought 9-8 win.
After a leadoff single from Ashlyn Watson, Lacy Darity plated pinch-runner Rachel Johnson with a double to tie the game. Tech intentionally walked Nicholson and Totte to set up the force out but Tara Jeffery made them pay with a hard-hit single to third base that sent Darity home for the 9-8 win.
Johnson picked up the win in game two after entering in relief in the fifth. The freshman tossed 2.1 innings, allowing one run off one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Jessica Hoppock allowed four runs off seven hits and three strikeouts in the start. Randi Cook gave up three runs before giving way to Johnson.
