Cowgirl Netters Begin Final Road Trip

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team will take to the road for the final time of the 2005 regular season when they travel north to take on Iowa State and No. 30 Nebraska over the weekend.

“We certainly feel like we can compete with both of the teams we play this weekend,” said head coach Julius Lubicz-Majewski. “These are important matches, not only for our standings in the conference, but also for our confidence.”

The Cowgirls (4-10, 1-4) will be looking to snap a four match losing streak when they face the Cyclones (1-7, 0-6) at the Forker Courts in Ames, Iowa at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

In their second match of the weekend, OSU will take on Nebraska (14-2, 5-2) at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb. at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

“Iowa State and Nebraska will pose big challenges for us,” Lubicz-Majewski said. “We are going to have to play on top of our games to be able to win these matches.”

Freshman Iryna Tkachenko will be looking to snap a two-match losing streak, her longest of the season. The Kiev, Ukraine native, has compiled an 11-3 record while competeing in the top singles spot.
