Cowgirl Softball Holds Off Cyclones

Cowgirl starter Jessica Hoppock scattered two hits while leading Oklahoma State to a 3-1 win against Iowa State on Sunday at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The Cowgirls improve to 29-16 overall and 4-7 in Big 12 games while Iowa State falls to 13-25 overall and 1-10 in league play.

The Cowgirls took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Shanel Scott knocked Jennie Killman home with a single to center field. Killman led off the frame with a double then moved to third on a sacrifice from Lacy Darity.

After playing small ball in her last at-bat, Darity had a chance to swing for the fences in the fifth inning and she didn't waste the opportunity. The junior went yard for just the second time this season, clearing pinch-runner Rachel Johnson from the bases with the shot to left field.

Much like Saturday's game, Iowa State attempted to rally for the win in the seventh but the Cowgirls would not have it, allowing just one unearned run to take the game 3-1 and earn a split in the series.

Hoppock was solid in the circle, tossing a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking five while picking up her 13^th win of the season.

Oklahoma State returns to Cowgirl Stadium on Tuesday to host Texas Tech for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
