Softball Falls To Iowa State

Oklahoma State surrendered two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and fell to Iowa State, 2-1, on Saturday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames. The win gave the Cyclones their first victory in league games, moving their record to 13-24 overall and 1-9 in conference games. The Cowgirls dropped to 28-16 overall and 3-7 in the Big 12.

The offense for both teams came in the sixth, but the Cowgirls did not do enough their half of the inning for the win. Shanel Scott scored OSU's lone run of the game, coming home on a sacrifice fly from Courtney Totte. After leading off with a single, Scott stole second and moved to third on a base hit from Stephanie Nicholson.

Iowa State plated two runs in the sixth to earn the come-from-behind win. Ashley Killeen was the hero of the game, lacing a single to center field to score both runs.

The inning started with Cary Akins earning a free pass to first. Randi Cook then entered the game and Jessica Quade reached on an error by the Cowgirls. A groundout moved both runners into scoring position and Killeen came through with the timely hit.

Marjorie Johnson started the contest and allowed one run off two hits, eight strikeouts and three walks. Cook tossed one inning in relief, surrendering one unearned run while giving up one hit and striking out one Cyclone.

The Cowgirls and Cyclones return to the field at noon on Sunday to close out the series.
