Don?t miss your opportunity to learn more about one of Oklahoma State's greatest graduates and philanthropists.
Tulsa's KOTV Channel 6 will air a profile of Boone Pickens as part of its Oklahomans series this week. The show, scheduled to be televised Tuesday at 8 p.m., will feature two other native Oklahomans in addition to Pickens.
On March 6, 2003, Pickens announced a $70 million commitment to his alma mater ? the largest single gift ever to OSU. Of the $70 million, Pickens intends to form a $20 million trust to support OSU's stadium renovation.
In addition, Pickens also revealed a $35 million testamentary gift in his will to support several academic and athletic projects at OSU.
Pickens came to Oklahoma State from Holdenville in eastern Oklahoma. Upon graduation, he took a job with Phillips Petroleum and became an independent geologist three years later. In 1956, he founded a precursor to MESA Petroleum, which became one of the largest independent producers of oil and natural gas in the U.S.
Pickens has been inducted into the OSU Alumni Hall of Fame, awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree, and honored with the University's Henry G. Bennett Award.
