Softball Takes Two From UMKC
March 09, 2005 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls scored three runs in the first inning of game one and never looked back. OSU scored in every inning but the third, and the game was called with one out in the bottom of the sixth due to the mercy rule. Stephanie Nicholson hit a three-run walk off home run to push the Cowgirls lead to 10-1 and end the game.
Jessica Hoppock tossed a complete game against the Kangaroos, allowing one run off one hit, two walks and six strikeouts.
The second game got off to a roaring start with four home runs in the first two innings. Shanel Scott and Ashleigh Tweed both hit the first long ball of their career while Megan Carey and Tara Jeffery chipped in with their second of the season.
Courtney Totte went yard for the fifth time this year to increase OSU's lead to 11-1 in the fourth.
After seeing 11 runs cross home plate off the long ball, Shianne Cruce pushed Carey home for the Cowgirls only run of the game not scored off a home run.
Randi Cook picked up the win, allowing one run off four hits and one strikeout in 4.0 innings. Kristen Neil tossed the final inning in relief, surrendering one run off two hits, one walk and one strikeout.
Six Cowgirls finished the day with at least three hits. Stephanie Nicholson led the team with four RBI and a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Megan Carey was also 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Shanel Scott scored a team-high four runs and finished 4-for-6.
The outstanding offensive outing continued with Ashleigh Tweed finishing a perfect 3-for-3 in the box, scoring two runs and earning three RBI. Tara Jeffery and Courtney Totte round out the group, both going 3-for-5 at the plate. Jeffery scored two runs and knocked in three. Totte earned four RBI and scored four runs.
