Well fans conference started this weekend at home here in
As for the series, we were able to pull out the series win, 2-1. On Friday night, Tom Cowley pitched a tremendous game going 8 2/3 before giving up his first run in 26 2/3 innings. We won 3-2 as Scotty Richmond came in and slammed the door with bases loaded to pick up his third save of the year. There wasn't too much offensive action as the K-State starter did a good job of keeping our offensive off balance. Saturday's game started off decent, as we scored in the first, to go up 1-0. K-State made a good run in the later innings, but we were able to hold them off by an 8-5 score. Rick Rivas did a great job coming in the 5th inning and allowing no runs, six K's, and picked up his first win of the year.
Offensively, freshman Corey Brown led us with a three hit day and picking up four crucial RBI's. Sunday's game was rough from the beginning. They started their ace against us and he did his job in shutting us down for 8 innings. We did score 5 in the ninth, but it was a little too late for a comeback as we lost 9-5.
A lot of great things happen this weekend for us as a team. We won two games in which we didn't play our best, and on Saturday we came back late in the game to shut down the K-State attack. A couple guys got their first taste of conference play which was really cool to watch. Next week we continue conference play against probably the hottest team in the country, the Baylor Bears. They swept #8 Vanderbilt and #1
weekend starters could be high draft picks in June.
So hope to see you at Allie P. for what hopes to be a very fun and eventful weekend.
Quote of the Week
“We won a game yesterday. We win one today, that's two in a row. We win one tomorrow that's called a winning streak. It has happened before.”
