Cowgirls Fall To Northwestern
February 06, 2005 | Cowgirl Softball
The Cowgirls struck first when Shanel Scott came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first. Scott led off the frame with a walk, moved to second on a single from Stephanie Nicholson and third on a stolen base. Northwestern forced two outs but an errant pitch followed to allow Scott to score the Cowgirls only run of the day.
Northwestern tied the game on a solo home run in the fourth, then exploded for eight runs in the fifth. The Wildcats touched the Cowgirls for five hits in the inning, capped by a three-run long ball.
The Cowgirls were unable to score in the bottom of the frame and the contest was called due to the mercy rule.
Marjorie Johnson took the loss for the Cowgirls, allowing six runs, four earned, on five hits, four walks and eight strikeouts. Randi Cook entered with no outs in the fifth, facing the final six batters of the game. Cook allowed three unearned runs off one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
Oklahoma State (2-3) returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Cowley County for a 3 p.m. scrimmage at Cowgirl Stadium.
