Cowgirl Softball Drops Two At Pepsi Arizona Classic

The Cowgirls gave up two first inning runs to Arizona when Kristie Fox went yard. The Wildcats added two final runs in the fifth. Fox drove in her third run of the day with a single up the middle then later scored on an error by the Cowgirls.
OSU scored its lone run of the game in the top of the second when Courtney Totte came home on a single from Ashleigh Tweed.
Marjorie Johnson took the loss for the Cowgirls, allowing four runs off five hits and 11 strikeouts. Leslie Wolfe earned the win for Arizona, tossing five innings before Alicia Hollowell came in to finish off the game.
In the nightcap, the Cowgirls held a commanding 6-1 lead over Tulsa before giving up seven runs in the top of the six. OSU could not answer in the bottom of the frame and the game was called after six innings due to stadium curfew.
The Cowgirls scored an unearned run in the second before Tulsa tied the contest in the top of the fourth.
OSU's offense took over for two innings, pushing five runs across home plate. Stephanie Nicholson gave the Cowgirls a 3-1 lead in the fourth on a two-run long ball. Oklahoma State then built a five-run cushion through five innings following a RBI double from Shianne Cruce and two-run home run from Chelsea Caraway.
The game took a turn for the worse for the Cowgirls in the sixth inning. Tulsa connected for four hits in the frame and benefited from four walks and a Cowgirl error.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Tulsa scored its first run of the inning on a failed pickoff attempt. Following that play the Golden Hurricane earned two free passes and connected on back-to-back doubles to score six runs and take the win.
Jessica Hoppock was saddled with the loss against Tulsa, allowing seven runs off six hits and four strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings. Johnson faced the final four batters of the contest, surrendering one run before picking up the final out.
Oklahoma State (2-2) concludes play at the Pepsi Arizona Classic on Sunday, facing Northwestern at 11 a.m.
